Burton Green Cut and Cover Tunnel - HS2 Railway
HS2 is Britain’s largest construction project, building 140 miles of high-speed railway and four new stations between London and the West Midlands.
The project incorporates infrastructure for reliable, faster rail connections between Britain’s major cities – the foundations for a modern network.
The “green” tunnel in Burton Green will be hidden from view, with the roof covered with landscape planting and new footpaths to integrate the railway into the surrounding landscape. The purpose is maximising green space around the new high speed railway, and work with residents and authorities to ensure the tunnel design conserves, enhances and transforms the landscape in this area.
It was designed by the Mott MacDonald Systra design joint venture (MMSDJV) on behalf of Balfour Beatty Vinci (BBV) – HS2’s main contractor for the West Midlands.

Bromford Tunnel Intermediate Shaft - HS2 Railway
HS2 is Britain’s largest construction project, building 140 miles of high-speed railway and four new stations between London and the West Midlands.
The project incorporates infrastructure for reliable, faster rail connections between Britain’s major cities – the foundations for a modern network.
The Bromford tunnel is a high-speed railway tunnel in North Warwickshire and Birmingham, England that will serve to bring the High Speed 2 rail line into Birmingham upon completion.
The intermediate shaft is designed for ventilation and emergency access during tunnel operations. It facilitates maintenance and safety inspections of the tunnel infrastructure.
Construction involves advanced engineering techniques to ensure structural integrity.
